Hi folks!
Well tomorrow is D-day for my knee. Hopefully it's going to be a partial replacement which apparently means I should make a quicker recovery (Does that mean I will have to go back to work quicker?? Sad )
Now the day has come I have been trying to think of excuses to cancel, until yesterday after a day grandchildren sitting, when I was on my knees by 5 o'clock----At least I would have been if I could get down on my kneesBigGrin
So no excuses Am on my way to get it sorted in the morning so I can be running around in the summer Ha Ha I never could run!
I have had to stop RA meds (methotrex) for a few weeks so hoping not to get any flare ups though I know my wrist/hands will not be happy bunnies without it.

Speak again soon,friends

Thanks everyone!
The op and the spinal +I pod for relaxation all went well though it did turn into a total replacement
Strange to be able to discuss the options half way through the op!
The surgeon has said we definitely made the right decision so that's reassuring
I have seen the physio this morning and am sitting in a chair but ready to move back to bed now I think

Take care all
Love Julie

Hi Julie,

Great to hear from you! I`m glad the op - albeit a bigger one than anticipated - is over with. A total replacement will probably have saved you from more surgery in the long term.

Hope your recovery goes well,

Take care,

Kathleen x

Well done Julie BigGrin
Strange isn't it being awake, music on!!
That is the worst part done, slow recovery & listen to physio....but don't push yourself.
Ask if you could have a knee thingy (you hold one end and thread your foot through to gently get in/out of bed) they are a brilliant.

Get plenty of rest, you look fab by the way on your support stockings!LOL ThumpUp

Take care,
Love Jane

So happy it all went well ThumpUp , can't believe your out of bed so quickly !
I had my left knee done a couple of years ago but was told to stay in bed for 2 days rest afterwards , you will be pain free in a few weeks and happy you had it done .

Best wishes

Out of bed and home quickly too! They let me home late yesterday afternoon after checking I could manage stairs and crutches though they said I could stay longer if I wanted to.Part of me wanted to stay for the security of the hospital and the staff who were great, but the bigger part of me wanted home & to check up on my doggies!!

So I am up and every little task seems a major one so I am having to learn to sit still and let the husband do things. He has got breakfast, walked the dogs, done the hovering and been to the gym and I am exhausted!!

Thanks Jane for saying I am fab with my lovely stockings on!- They remind me of the white socks I used to have to wear with my school summer dresses back in the year 19blah de blah !

Hope to keep positive but in reality am feeling on and off weepy

Love to all

Hi Julie glad you are going on O.K.
I am in the same position as you, had my right knee replaced on last day of Jan. Have had good days and less so good days.
Yep, stayed awake too, with music playing, a rather weird experience but felt very relaxed. Just felt very unreal.
Towards the end surgeon said we are just waiting for the cement to dry, and said if I wanted, I could look at the reflection in the window to see inside my knee, he then showed me how much my knee can bend and straighten with new joint in place!!
I've had a lot more trouble with painkillers than knee, the morphine made me feel very ill, and then the same for every other type of pain relief that I took afterwards, but getting on O.K. again now.
Having staples out tomorrow, had first physio last Wed. So onward and upward!! Smile
Exercises are hard but determined to get as much movement in knee as possible.
One thing that I did not expect, but should have done, is that of feeling so, so tired and exhausted. I seem to wake up with a big headache every morning, think its the painkillers so will reduce them as soon as I can.
Hope you continue to feel a bit better each day, keep us posted, good to compare notes.....BigGrin

I have not had to stop mtx inj, just abatercept infusions, which I am told I can start again soon. Must be different opinions in different hospitals.
I did flare quite a bit to begin with but seems to be calming again now.
Best wishes x

Hi Zena
I was wondering how you are doing as I know you had to cancel your first date! Good to hear you are doing ok and hope having the staples out went ok today.
My surgeon mentioned the day after that he had considered asking me if I wanted a look but thought better of it--I would have loved a little peek being a little bit gory over that sort of thing!
As far as the knee goes I am doing well--with mobility better than I had imagined it would be. Like you though I think the painkillers are causing some problems with the tum. I'm not feeling so good today and have spent a lot of time loo bound! Hopefully this will clear soon. I think I may have to reduce some of the painkiller whilst being sensible at the same time.
It's funny whenever I mention that I am being sensible everybody laughs!!!

keep smiling folks

Hi Julie

Was just wondering whether the dogs are being extra careful with you? They're normally quite sensitive.

Happy healing!

Hello again, Just to say I rang my surgery after coming home about the loo problem, there's only so much roughage one can eat or feels like eating!!! Spoke to the nurse and she put me out some sachets of MACROGOL, which you make up into a drink. Can take one to three a day. work well for me, even if they don't taste brill!! and I was able to collect them the same day, worth asking.
I was a bit of a wimp having the staples out, she has left a few in, to come out on Thursday. Not because I was so pathetic Smile but she thought they looked a bit open or something, would much rather she had finished the job but she knows best. Went into Morrisons after for a bit of lunch, my first proper trip out, then did a bit of shopping with a lot of help on morrisons very trendy scooter, think I was a bit of a liability on it really. Took ages to get the thing to work at all!!!!
We have a little westie Angie and he has been quite put out and puzzled at the lack of attention he has been receiving from me lately, but he does seem to sense that he cannot jump up at the moment. He would normally just bounce up onto my lap, but now just sits and pleads with his eyes asking " Can I ?" We are just doing gentle quiet cuddles at the mo. My one daughter has two very boisterous labs so I'm keeping well away from those for a while.
Hope your dogs are O.K. with you Julie.
Zena xx
